luscious grape the band was originally founded as a high school band. right after we all graduated at high school everyone went in different directions but our drummer and our lead guitarrist. they wanted to continue making rock music and to show the people they have fun doing this. so they asked me to take the bass. that's how i made my first steps as a bassist. 4th place in the austrian band contast 2004 one drop jazz department as generally known in austria it takes a fairly long time until certain
musical developments establish themselves in the cultural scene. while
lots of people in new york, rotterdam or berlin support bands like "tommy
mccook and the supersonics" and the "skatatites" and created
from the close relationship of jazz and ska the ska-jazz genre, in austria
there is absolut silence in this area. in summer 2006 the jazz-guitar
student georg stoegermayer, after a few ska projects, wanted to change
this absence and fulfilled himself with the foundation of the one drop
jazz department a dream - austrias first ska-jaz band. for this he took
the reggae approved basis of b-seite sound, meaning drums and bass, and
blended it with experienced horns of the austrian jazz scene, in order
to act, together with his longtime partner and multi-instrumentalist florian
widhalm, as bridge between the up to now drifted apart worlds. the right
formation to make ska and reggae classics adequate for solos through jazz
harminics and to form ska out of jazz standards using onedrops and offbeats.
due to the perfect mixture of expereinced musicians in both areas, who
are aware of their roots and their tasks, this formation hold a fine balance
with the result: "jamaican rhythm meets jazzy compositions and solos"
or "ska jazz in it's pure and original form"! www.myspace.com/onedropjazzdept azure flight the band - erika chun (keys), david menke (sax, keys), florian widhalm (bass) and jakob sigl (drums) - fascinates through a bordercrossing mixture of different styles of music. every member brings in certain characteristic moments due to coming from different backgrounds, so that describing the music even with a wide ranging term as "fusion" can't image all the aspects. influences from east and west, jazz and funk, rock and pop seem to combine completely autonomous. the particularly live highly energetic mixture of the finest ingredients may deter one or another purist for musical styles, but it shall be recommended warmly to all the fans of good and powerful music, with all its exciting confrontations that appear in this exquisit synthesis. ludwig ludwig the guy, a history of his own, the band, a legend. a far too short time we could play together because of geographical reasons. the things we did we will always remember :) |
